Prize: A pair of matted and framed photographic print by a local Denali photographer KIRSTY KNITTEL, valued at over $1000.
The first one, Denali and Fireweed, depicts Denali (Mt McKinley) close-up with Fireweed in the foreground. The second one, Bobbly Skies, shows Denali as a scenic part of the Alaska Range, reflected in a kettle pond. Both photos were taken inside Denali National Park from the only road that leads to Denali Backcountry Lodge in Kantishna. Visitors to the Lodge can view these same scenes from the Lodge's bus if the weather permits.
They were both photographed on 35mm Fujichrome slide film using Canon EOS1N, professionally printed on Fuji Crystal Archive photographic paper by The Slideprinter in Colorado, individually signed in gold, matted in archival suede for the main mat with two inside acid-free mats, mounted on foamcore, and framed in blue-gray wood to size 24" x 36" each, all personally done by Kirsty herself.
Subject: Explain, through the image, the natural history of Alaska. The objective is to show breathtaking beauty of Alaskan landscape, of the towering jagged peaks of high mountains, of rivers charting their course, of glaciers glissading down the mountain side, of wildlife untamed roaming free in their natural habitat or a combination of categories. We also invite artists to send their photographs that document activities one can do while in Alaska.
We will only accept digital images, taken by a digital camera or those that have been scanned from negatives or paper versions. The contestants can only submit their photographs through the Internet. The photographer should identify their work or works with a TITLE. Each digital image should be sent as a JPG file, the size of the image does not matter however it should be appropriate to be visualized on the screen.
