Ione Robinson was a Twentieth Century American artist, writer, and political activist. In 1928, she assisted Mexican muralist, Diego Rivero on the murals in the National Palace in Mexico City. While there, she associated with many prominent members of the artistic and intellectual communities active in Mexico City at that time- those included Tina Modotti, David Alfaro Siquieros, Carlos Merida, Pablo O'Higgins, Frida Kahlo, Lupe Marin, Manuel and Lola Alvarez Bravo, Jose Clemente Orozco. She was also active in NYC, where she was active in WPA for Artists Program. In 1937 she was encouraged by her friend D.A. Siquieros to take up the Spanish Republican cause. She traveled to Barcelona in 1938 to draw and paint in the besieged city. There she formed an alliance with Bibbian o Ossorio Tafall, Commisar-General of the Spanish Republican Army whom she later married. After the fall and retreat of Barcelona, she poured her energies into S.E.R.E coordinating relief efforts of the hundreds of thousands refugees from the Civil War. During the Second World War, she was an OSS agent stationed in London, coordinating efforts with the French, Spanish, and Italian Resistance.
