Sculptures from Cape Ferrelo Metalcraft start with sheets of 18-gauge steel. Pieces for each work are sketched on the steel and cut by hand. Using traditional techniques, the steel is hand formed, shaped and fit.
Each part of the sculpture is shaped, formed, and fit by hand, using hammers, hand-made dollies, and a hand-made dishing stump. Individual components are then welded together to craft the sculpture that is then ready for final finishing.
Final finishing methods utilize patinas made in-shop. Occasionally commercial dyes are used, but all oxidation combinations are formulated and mixed in-house.
