In 1984, Thom Rivers created a recipe to use on a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Thom also had developed a process for preparing turkeys in which they would not dry out while cooking. With Thom’s Special Rub recipe and moisturizing process without knowing he had created something that all of the Thanksgiving diners that day would love. When Thom cooked the first turkey, there were six friends at his home and they consumed the turkey in one hour and asked for more. Thom prepared a second turkey, began to cook it and noticed that the guests were all raving about the taste, tenderness and moisture of the turkey. Once the second turkey was cooked and placed on the table, it was eaten within an hour. Thom felt that he might have had something, but he was busy with other things to take notice , as we often do. Thom continued to cook turkeys using his special seasoning and cooking process, and every year more and more people became exposed to it. Then in 1991, Thom cooked some turkeys in Los Angeles and the guest at the dinner party asked if they could purchase his turkeys via the mail or UPS/Fedex. Again, Thom was busy making a living doing some other things to consider this as an opportunity. In 1992, Thom was in Atlanta and was asked to cook turkeys there, too. As usual he had his seasoning with him and began to prepare some turkeys, the response from those who had never before had Thom’s Turkey loved them! People in the ATL asked Thom why not start selling turkeys. Again Thom was too busy doing something else. The following year Thom cooked turkeys in Baltimore and again the response was the same! Now fast forward to 2008, the time is now right for Thom to cook turkeys and introduce this special taste to the world.
