Josue Diaz was the recipient of a ruptured Achilles Tendon on May 2nd, 2009 while playing the game of basketball that he loves so much. There was no warning, no soreness, no previous pain or anything that would have pointed to the eventual explosion that took place in the middle of the largest Tendon in his body.
Josué was in the Emergency Room 2hrs later. The injury occurred on a Saturday night and the time between the injury occurrence and sitting in the Emergency Room consisted of Josué failing to make a logical argument to his wife that he should wait until Monday to visit the ER.
Josué was lucky enough to not have to wait more than 20 minutes in the ER and saw the physician on-duty that evening and was asked to lie on his stomach with his feet hanging off the edge of the hospital bed for performance of the Thompson Test to confirm diagnosis of a ruptured Achilles Tendon. Surgery was scheduled and successfully completed 4 days later. The stage was set for the unpredictable journey that was ahead.
Josué was at the most significant cross-roads in his life and needed to decide how he was going to process his new reality. He decided that allowing his newly found immobility, healing, eventual physical therapy and subsequent new way of life would be something he would make a conscious effort everyday to not allow him to lose site of his goals – Increased Performance (both Psychologically & Physically).
Josué decided he would begin the documentation of his journey on YouTube. It was important for him to express himself although he had immense support from family and friends, there were still times when finding additional outlets of communication were important to maintain adequate levels of sanity. The comments, private messages and friends discovered through YouTube could not have come at a better time as Josué was adjusting to the new reality presented to him.
Through many months of therapy, adjustment to the healing (physical & mental) process of this injury, Josué was frustrated at the lack of first person account and minimal content on the Internet of those going through what he was going through and continues to go through and decided to start a web site for those who sustained a Ruptured Achilles Tendon, those living with those who’ve sustained this injury and anyone concerned with treatment of this injury.
