Tamsen Z
Drawing inspiration from nature and fantasy, the Tamsen Z Spring 2010 collection conveys a timeless femininity. Through Ann Ziff’s use of color and unique materials the collection is brought to life. Ranging from turquoise to fire opals and diamonds to polished meteorites, the one-of-a-kind gems are selected for their natural beauty which is enhanced by their precise cut.
TURQUOISE PARADISE
Inspired by the vibrant colors of the sea, Turquoise Paradise is hand-crafted in 18kt yellow gold with delicate micropavé diamond accents. Adored for their striking beauty and mystical properties, the Sleeping Beauty Mine turquoise gemstones are incorporated into dramatic design which gives way to a breathtaking collection of rings, necklaces and earrings.
OPAL PARADISE
Opal Paradise reflects on nature’s splendor and the opulence found in fine opals. Drawing on the colors of the rainbow and the soft glisten of far seas, each piece sparkles in a continually changing play of colors. Black opal, white crystal opal, boulder opal and fire opal variations are crafted in 18kt yellow and white gold and accented with diamonds; each stone is uniquly distinct and equally precious, having been hand selected.
DIAMOND PARADISE
Chosen from the most unusual colored diamonds, the Tamsen Z Diamond Paradise collection features the extraordinary beauty of natural-colored diamonds in hand-crafted bracelets, rings, pendants and earrings. In colors perfect for the season, the collection is made up of white, grey, brown, black and yellow diamonds which create a striking nature-inspired palette.
TAMSEN ANN ZIFF Founder, Tamsen Z
Ann Ziff has had a life-long love affair with jewelry and is drawn to the stones that bring a piece to life. As a child, Ziff was fascinated by the elaborate jewelry worn by her mother, famed American opera singer Harriet Henders, and throughout her childhood she was surrounded by artistic expression. What started during her youth as an interest in hand crafts and creating costume beaded headpieces and necklaces, has grown to become a passion for fine jewelry design. As Ziff’s fervor for design grew, she started collecting the rarest and most beautiful materials and gemstones—from fire opals and sapphires to rubies and diamonds to meteorites and fossilized coral.
For the past 35 years Ziff has collected vintage art deco pieces from celebrated designers such as René Boivin; yet she always had a deep-rooted desire to create jewelry that would express her signature style. Ziff was further encouraged by her late husband, William B. Ziff, Jr., a prominent publishing world figure, to begin collecting precious gems of her own.
Ziff got her first taste for collecting in 2004 when she and William attended the Gem and Jewelry Show in Tucson. She purchased a variety of precious gemstone beads in sapphires, emeralds, rough diamonds and tanzanite and began creating. From there, Ziff launched her eponymous fine jewelry collection, Tamsen Z. Her passion for collecting has given way to one of the world’s most preeminent collections of privately owned gemstone beads. Her pieces are now worn by some of the most prominent women in New York.
In the last five years, Ziff has expanded her collection dramatically. In tandem, she has grown her business and established herself as a leader in the field. When Ann Ziff opens the first Tamsen Z boutique in spring 2010, it will be another chapter in her life-long passion for jewelry, gemstones and self expression. The flagship boutique will be located on Madison Avenue, one of the most prestigious luxury shopping districts in the world.
A native New Yorker, Ziff is as passionate about giving back as she is about jewelry design. Her philanthropic work includes serving on the Board of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Metropolitan Opera, Conservation International, New York Restoration Project and Smile Train.
Ziff serves as Vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of Lincoln Center and recently created a
pair of diamond earrings to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Center. With her strong
background in social work, she continues to work to help children in need and to bring culture and
arts into the lives of young people.
Ziff resides on the Upper East Side, where she oversees the design and production of Tamsen Z.
