CAPLES JEFFERSON ARCHITECTS, When established in 1987 , Caples Jefferson Architects committed themselves to dedicate 50% of their practice to 'work for the community.' Since then, they have worked with numerous not-for-profits. Their wide range of projects includes: child care centers, schools, community centers, religious centers, and theatres. Working for the community means, to Caples Jefferson Architects, a commitment to the social aspects of architecture. They address the development of buildings through a research-intensive design process, which culminates in an architecture of intensification - where program, site, natural phenomena, and underlying principles are joined in an architecture whose goal is to make the user feel truly present. Over the last fifteen years, Caples Jefferson Architects has brought high quality design into the underserved corners of New York City. Among the honors they have received are selection in 1998 as Emerging Voices by the Architectural League of New York, and a 2003 national AIA Honor Award for Architecture for the non-profit Heritage Health and Housing Headquarters in Harlem, New York.
