The mission of the Communication Disorders Foundation of Virginia is to recognize individuals in the area of communication disorders through scholarships and awards. The Foundation began in 1985 as a committee of the Speech-Language-Hearing Association of Virginia (SHAV). The purpose of the committee was to raise and award scholarship funds for graduate studies in the field of communication disorders. A year later it was established as an independent Foundation with a Board of Trustees and 501 (c)(3) status. Two student scholarships are awarded annually to graduate students in speech-language pathology or audiology studying in Virginia. Additionally, a scholarship is awarded annually to a hearing-impaired Virginian graduating from high school and entering a program of higher education or vocational training.
