Semih Önyer
Semih ÖNYER was born 1982 in the magical city of Izmir, Turkey. He started his career at the age of nine, playing the guitar. Since 2004 he has expanded and improved his musical skills through self study. As from that same year, his knowledge on music theory, harmony and instrumentation was greatly enhanced and nurtured by the composer Mr Bertan Rona. While being a lecturer in Economics at the D.E University in Izmir, Semih was accepted to well-known composer Prof. Istemihan Taviloglu’s class at the same university within the Conservatory to Composition department. As addition to his academic studies; He worked on Jazz theory, harmony, jazz history, form and improvisation with jazz pianist Omur Gidel and ensemble with Yavuz Daridere. In March 2008, he had the great opportunity to attend a workshop hosted by the members of ‘Musica Reservata Quartet (Riccardo Luppi, Vincenzo Mingiardi, Roberto Bonati, Roberto Dani) and “Siena jazz Quartet” (Roberto Nannetti, Mirco Mariotini, Franco Fabbrini, Francesco Petreni) He was one of the establisher of Trio IFF. IFF jazz trio attended to a competition called youth jazz in Istanbul and got the prize in 2008. He played in many festivals and concerts including 15th international Istanbul Jazz Festival
Semih Onyer who is getting ready for also his academic career in London, wrote nearly hundred works for various orchestras. Recently he has been writing for movies, short movies, documentaries, ballets and theatres.
