Hugh Pocock
Hugh Pococks work comprises of performances, sculptures, installations and videos that address the interactions of culture and nature, history and memory, architecture and the landscape as well as media and personal experience. His work utilizes the cultural presence of artificial materials as well as sustainable, recyclable and environmentally aware practices. Soil, water, air and the sun figure prominently in his work, as well as plastic, formica and apple trees. His interest and involvement in the esthetics of manual labor is visible in much of his work. Many of his projects also require careful research into the site-specific qualities of the exhibitions location. Hugh Pocock lives with his wife and son in Baltimore, MD and teaches at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He is a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute and of UCLA.
