Maurizio Russo
Maurizio Russo was born in Milan in 1955. He develop his inborn disposition to draw and to paint from an early age. While still a self-taught adolescent, he experiments with varied pictoric techniques and works for a well-known publicity agency as hyper-realistic illustrator. He subsequently comes into contact with Umberto Faini, painter and teacher at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, who invites him to attend his workshop and his lesson when Russo is only sixteen. Intolerant towards any type of constrictions and discipline, however he soon leaves the Accademia in favour of a more personal and free experimentation that results in his first Milanese exhibition in 1972 where he shows works of a surrealistic and symbolic character. He stops painting for almost seven years, after having reached the conviction that his own pictoric adventure is exhausted. During that time, he travels around Europe painting portraits on commission and maturing his own tendency towards a style of an almost Baroque flavour. Back to Milan at the beginning of the Eighties, he participates in several group exhibitions with well-known artist of the Milanese art world.
