Peanuts on DVD
Peanuts is a beloved American comic strip written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz. The first comic appeared October 2, 1950, and the series continued to February 13, 2000. At the peak of its popularity, Peanuts ran in over 2,600 newspapers, with a readership of 355 million in 75 countries, and was translated into 21 languages. It also included over 30 animated television specials and films. Peanuts appeals to every generation with its simple everyday wisdoms, wit and unique perspective on life. With enduring icons like Snoopy and Charlie Brown, Peanuts has made an indelible mark on popular culture. Happiness is...the Peanuts gang! The series follows the aspirations and angst of Charlie Brown and the gang as they navigate through childhood. The Peanuts gang includes Charlie Brown, Snoopy (his beagle hound with illusions of grandeur), Lucy (the 'fussbudget') her little brother Linus (who is never without his security blanket,) and Charlie Brown's little sister Sally. Charlie Brown is the central character of Peanuts, and is loosely based on Schulz's own experiences. He is a bundle of insecurities and the sufferer of endless humiliations but never loses hope that he will receive cards on Valentine's Day or treats on Halloween. When Schulz penned his final comic (due to health problems,) it showed Snoopy at his typewriter, writing his letter of retirement: 'Dear Friends, I have been fortunate to draw Charlie Brown and his friends for almost 50 years. It has been the fulfillment of my childhood ambition...' (c)2000 United Feature Syndicate, Inc.
