The Everhart Museum of Natural History, Science, and Art a landmark in Scranton’s Nay Aug Park since 1908 is a vital part of the cultural life of northeastern Pennsylvania. Founder Isaiah Everhart, a Scranton physician and businessman, was a lifelong enthusiast of the sciences. Using his skills in biology, anatomy, and taxidermy, he amassed a collection of Pennsylvania's native birds and animals that soon developed into one of the finest and largest collections in the United States. Today, the Everhart Museum continues to advance Dr. Everhart's original vision of community enrichment. Our holdings of 19th and 20th century American art, folk art, and Dorflinger glass are renowned. Our selection of European paintings and prints; Asian art; and ancient art of Greece, Rome, Egypt, and Mesopotamia are rich and diverse, as are our ethnographic artifacts of Native American, African, and Oceanic cultures. In addition, the Everhart boasts specimens spanning the whole of natural history, including one of the largest ornithological collections in the country. Through careful preservation of our collections and resources, collaborative educational programs with schools and organizations, and wide-ranging exhibitions of natural history, science, and art, the Everhart strives to remain an invaluable regional resource for this and future generations.
