Background
I have always been interested in photography and videography ever since I was a teenager. I first started taking pictures using my dad's camera back in the day when film was the only medium and (consumer-level) digital cameras were not invented as yet. I love taking pictures and being able to record a slice of history. Even better is the ability to capture a candid moment and freeze it for all time. My first camera was the Nikon N70 and I used that camera for over a decade before entering the digital world. In 2006 I purchased my first digital camera, the Nikon D2X. This also marked my entry as a professional photographer, taking pictures (primarily) for children events. As the years went by I became interested in portraiture and decided to extend my interest in this area of photography as well giving rise to this new site - Photo Art by Walter - to show my work in this discipline.
The Photo Art Experience
Each person is a unique individual and what works with one person may not work with another. I have been working with different people in a wide variety of roles, both in the photography / videography world and in the high-tech sector, and I bring this experience with me when I have an engagement. My goal is to first understand what you are looking for and to work with you to capture that special look and those special memories. Photo Art by Walter is actually a husband and wife team. With portraiture, my wife adds the artistic direction and flare so that besides capturing the general portrait look we will work with you to capture the artistic side as well. The Photo Shoot
Photo sessions are conducted out of my studio either in Milpitas or San Francisco and are generally between 45 minutes to 90 minutes per person. For a couple or families wanting to take both individual and group pictures, I recommend budgeting between 1.5 hours to 3 hours for the photo session. Depending on your needs, the photo session can be customized, for example, for models wanting to capture different types of poses, outfits and moods, you may want to set aside more time for your photo shoot. In preparing for a photo session I general recommend the following:
Bring multiple changes of clothes: for instance you may want to consider bring formal, semi-formal and casual clothes. You may also want to consider bring outfits with different colors and different patterns.
Bring multiple changes of clothes: this is not a typo because I wanted to stress this a second time. The more clothes you bring and of different variety the more options we have to match you with the background or in group shots.
Bring different types of accessories: this applies to both sexes. Some examples of accessories include: ear-rings (different lengths, styles, colors), gloves, hats, scarves, shoes, etc...
Please bring make-up and any hair products your normally use: I would suggest deferring putting on the majority of your make-up until you arrive. How the photo shot would work is that I would take some test shots with minimal make-up on and then we would progressively add make-up (if necessary) as the shoot progresses.
