Enhancing Child and Family Team Facilitation Skills
Course Description: Welcome to the course Enhancing Child and Family Team Facilitation Skills. This course is geared toward service providers working with children involved in the mental health system and their families. More specifically, the focus is on facilitation skills as they relate to a family driven approach to service planning. Although the course is geared toward mental health providers, the content may benefit anyone who facilitates a planning process, such as providers from the health department, juvenile justice, public schools and child welfare. Students in this course will participate in a variety of experiential activities such as group projects, partner activities and an individual community assignment. Students will also contribute to discussions on a variety of topics: Child and Family Team planning, critical reflection, facilitation skills, family driven versus system driven approaches and analysis of dual roles and potential barriers to practice implementation within organizations. Weekly journal submissions by students will build toward their personal commitments to practice in a final project titled "My Intentional Action Plan".Prerequisites for this course require that students have completed at least one of the following:
Attended an overview or introductory course on System of Care and Child and Family Team planning process; or
Facilitated Child and Family Team meetings or an equivalent planning process.
This course is a six week, accelerated course delivered completely online. It's asynchronous but requires regular interaction with fellow classmates and instructors. Students are provided a certificate of completion for 30 content training hours. CEU's are also provided upon request. Because of the pace and the level of interaction in this course, it is requested that all students ensure they can fully commit before registering. Although the course is asynchronous, it does include weekly assignments and deadlines. No certificates will be awarded without full participation.
