Heart Of Desert .:. Enjoy the Desert Adventure : Desert Trips Palmyra Syria
The project Heart of Desert is led by Mohamed Homidan and A'bd al-Salam A'bd al-Latif who are offering their great experience of the Syrian desert to those who want to discover it.
Mohamed, who is the oldest son of a Bedouin Palmyrian family, grew up in Palmyra and since his childhood started to be interested by the Bedouin's way of life. Every time he could, he escaped school to run away in the desert, exploring all its stones and discovering new places with his friends. He started to work in hotels from an early age and after a while, due to his experience and his linguistic ability, he became the manager of Al-Nakheel hotel (www.alnakheelhotel.com). Since then, Al-Nakheel hotel started to be very well rated in all the guide books. As Mohamed has a lot of Bedouins friends, he started to visit them with foreigners who want to discover the reality of their life.
A'bd al-Salam, who comes from a Bedouin family, grew up around Palmyra, helping after school his father who raises camels, learning how to deal with this friendly animal which has a very strong character. Soon, he started to offer his services to the tourists who wanted to ride camels in the ruins or in the oasis. As he has a very good knowledge of the desert, he started to bring the foreigners in the desert.
Mohamed and A'bd al-Salam decided to join their efforts and to create the traditional Bedouin project Heart of Desert in order to let people learn about the Bedouins' way of life. They have made up a Bedouin camp composed of several different original tents in the desert in which visitors can rest and appreciate the comfort of the bedouin tent. In which they can also enjoy a real traditional bedouin dinner and even attend a Bedouin party. To take care of this place all year long, they have also hired a Bedouin family in order to supplement their income.
As the life for Bedouins started to get more difficult in the desert because of the lack of rain during the recent dry winter, the idea of the project is to give the opportunity to more Bedouin families to join in order to get an income. This project will help them to maintain their traditional life and their traditional handicraft which are slowly disappearing due to their condition.
