The D.I.Y lifestyle promotes the ability of the ordinary person to learn to do more than he or she thought was possible. As a lifestyle brand with origins in NYC and Tokyo, we’ve been influenced by these two city’s fiercely creative D.I.Y subcultures.
From stencil, street flyer, and poster art, to the modern music of today and it’s “produced in my bedroom” beats, chief&mischief draws design inspiration from the underground. It represents, perhaps, individual mischief that is rendered from being just a little “off,” but with a sheer sense of enjoyment for things unbalanced, new, anxious, and/or strange.
As a collection, we aim to present a principal, or chief, appreciation for lasting beauty, handwork, and development that is inspired from the complexity in design, sound, and ideas.
Finally, as chief&mischief is a product of our of environment, and we aim to produce our collection using the human spirit and capital that make every community unique. Our Spring 2011 collection is made from carefully tended organic cotton and eco-friendly lyocell fabrics from Japan. This fabric is then carefully printed by hand and sewn together in NYC’s garment district.
