Statement:
I began my photography in junior high school so I could get out of choir. The world is better for this as I am a lousy tenor. Today I use photography as a release from the drudgery of every day life. I prefer black and white film photography but in this day and age (and lacking space/funds for a wet darkroom) I've been attempting to hybridize film and digital.
I use digital more for convenience. The only special effects you're likely to see me use are some toning or maybe removing some distractions from the background. I find constructed photographs distasteful. I'm not sure why I just do. I don't travel much so my photographs are often taken very close to home. I often find subjects that interest me in my own yard like my cat J.C. (may he rest in peace) posing on the griffin or old glory as seen through cactus. I enjoy taking night photos and time exposures. A long exposure has a way of turning a busy, noisy intersection into a scene of surreal solitude, at least for me it does. I also take candid photographs of friends and family to remember times past. When I do travel I like to make my own tourist shots. Sure 8 million people have already taken a picture of half dome from this very spot, but this is what it looked like when I was there, clouds, lighting and all that jazz.
If the images I capture say something important about my subject or me, then that’s great. They may not say anything to some. Oh well, I'm not necessarily doing this for you. I'm doing this because I have virtually no meaning in life otherwise.
