Darcy Dahl
Inspired by Lon Chaney Jr., Darcy Dahl experienced his first commercial success in the realm of visual art by trading drawings of the wolfman to a fellow elementary school student for G.I. Joe figurines. Television was an early influence. It's influence continues today. CSPAN providing a barrage of posable figurines. Beginning in 1998 he began layering images on top of one another in an attempt to capture the violent capricious choreography in boxing. This resulted in layering many marks on top of one another - the technique extended into his formal study of the human figure , eventually extending into color studies, painting and video. Darcy met Jack Swanson during his first year of his preparation for the Seminary at Golden Valley Lutheran College. With Swanson he wrestled with shedding his appropriation of modern masters - Duchamp, deKooning, Cage, the futurists. He also met and befriended Herbert Loddigs, who's theology freed him from a obligation to pursue an anemic faith for the one that sustained - grace is a concept that drives all his work. The rest of college was spent skipping classes in order to attend every available figure drawing lab. His attendance in color 101 with David Feinberg afflicted him with the imperative of color's affect. Oliver Goodfellow
Oliver Goodfellow was born in Cornwell England in 1969 and graduated from the Falmouth School of Art and Design in 1989. He worked as a graphic artist and designer in London until 1996 before traveling through South East Asia to arrive in Australia in 1997. Inspired by his love of the coastline and ocean, his travel and life experiences, oliver combines strong organic shapes with muted colours, under painting and textured layering, to provide continuous discovery within his artworks. Ray Donley, the art of los bien perdidos
Ray Donley Fine Art, Oil paintings. Since 1981 Mr. Donley has been exhibiting in museums, universities, and galleries within the U.S., Europe, and in Mexico. The figures portrayed in his paintings - paintings that have, over the years, attracted a near cult-like following - form a part of the cycle of work he calls Los Bien Perdidos (the profoundly lost ones). Mr. Donley currently lives in Austin, Texas.Ray Donley's paintings are part of the New Old Masterism, a slowly but steadily emerging trend in contemporary art, involving not so much a return to order as it was once called, but the realization that avant-garde art has become an institutional clich - hypertrophied, as Clement Greenburg put it years ago - and that what once looked like the clichs of Old Master art are still full of potential. Donley is clearly a master of the medium of oil paint, as his subtle layering and textural richness suggest. It is highly evocative - emotionally persuasive all the more so because of Donley's exquisite chiaroscuro. Donley's imagination needs no prompting. The Old Masters intuitively understood that there is always something strange in beauty, as the philosoper Francis Bacon said, a perception confirmed by the strange beauty of Donley's paintings, as well as the strangely philosophical figures that they bring to life.
