Welcome, friends and visitors, to my blog and personal website (ibrahimelshamy.com). Here, I hope to share some of my stories, thoughts, and journeys with you, and exchange ideas together about matters of everyday life, philosophy, and events across the globe. I believe the stories of our lives are interwoven, and we can find deeper meaning by understanding different people, places, and perspectives.
The idea for this blog was sparked by my current journey: a year of study in Northern Ireland. Practically, I wanted a way to share my adventures more efficiently than occasional emails have done in the past. But from the beginning I realized that any sharing of âadventuresâ would discount the everyday adventures I enjoy without traveling hundreds of miles to study abroadâbut rather, in the depths of thought and the beauty of frequent interactions with friends, family, and the world around us. So I have chosen to aim for a higher mandate, a larger purpose to share stories and ideas.
I struggled finding a âtaglineâ to describe my vision and settled (for now) on: âOne voice joining billions, contemplating the stories of our world.â I chose these words because I want this website to emphasize one principle above all: humility as to the small role my/our individual story holds in the larger universe. However, when we contemplate the collection of these billions upon billions of stories composing the entirety of our existence, we can begin to understand a web of connections between our stories and those around them, and those around them, extending to reach every other story in the universe. Within this frame, our experiences are all incredibly meaningful, because they intersect and support so much in the world around us.
I try to share the diverse stories, perspectives, and journeys interconnected with my own life (especially from those whose voices have been silenced), while continuously striving to understand new things about our world in a free exchange of thought. It is my mission of a lifetime: to never stop learning, from the depths of philosophy to the funny matters of ordinary life.
If we hear each othersâ ideas and stories, we can know each other. When we know each other, we can work together to improve our world for everyone.
