For nearly twenty years I have wanted to make a living as an artist. At times my dream has felt so far out of reach. I made the mistake of believing that I should find a real job, and have been miserable doing just that. Sometime last year, a few pieces of work I completed in a college art class, presented themselves to me as a new challenge. The triptych, “set me free”, reminded me to once again pursue my dream, to fly high above all the obstacles, and do what I love.
Old and new, this group of work shares little glimpses of my life. I enjoy using a collage effect, with newspaper transfers and mixing ink and pencil. I include lots of text expressing my emotions, or the emotions of the subject I am drawing. Clothing has become a new obsession, finding a bridge between clothing design and my artwork has been truly amazing! Expressing my creativity has truly set me free…. And this is where I want to be!
