Camp Sue Osborn
In 1975 a mother with a special needs child was at a
loss. Helen (Sue) Osborn had a handicapped daughter, whose
limitations prevented her from attending a summer camp like her other
children attended in the summer. So, Osborn and her family with the
help of the East Shore Center on Kirtland, OH, decided to create a special
camp for special kids. Camp Sue Osborn was born, and 28 years later it's
still going strong, serving disabled children from Lake and Geauga
Counties in Ohio. Camp Sue Osborn is actually two camps―a
day camp held the first two weeks of July at the YMCA Outdoor Family
Center in Perry Township, and a residence camp held the last week of July
at Camp Burton in Burton, Ohio. Camperships are available for
children with a financial need.
