Lyons Glass
When designing and creating these chandeliers Lyons, was inspired by forms found in nature, and by the specific formal qualities of the materials: glass and steel.
The structures, geometric forms in steel are juxtaposed with organic shapes made of hand blown and sculpted glass. Each fixture is a balance of masculine and feminine.
I like the idea of creating beautiful sculptural objects that have a purpose in peoples' rooms. A chandelier should glow and at the same time cast beautiful light throughout the space.
In this time of paring down of objects and living a more minimal existence, to have something that is truly beautiful and useful at the same time interests me. It's not collecting dust in the corner. It functions.
Each component of these chandeliers was created by hand in Rochester, NY.
ELIZABETH LYONS is a sculptor who works in glass and a range of other materials. She lives in Rochester, NY where she was born and to which she returned after ten years of living in New York City.
Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States. Her sculptural work is represented by Ricco/Maresca Gallery in New York City. Included among the numerous awards she has won is the prestigious Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation award in 2005.
Lyons is also the founder and director of More Fire Glass Studio in Rochester, NY. Since 1998, More Fire Glass Studio has provided a glassmaking facility for artists to produce their work as well as glass education programs for the community.
More Fire Glass Studio offers evening classes, weekend and summer workshops and intensives in glassblowing, flameworking, beadmaking, casting, and sculpture. Also studio and torch rental. Glass Art Sales Gallery
