Sophie de Garam has studied Architecture in France and worked in New York and Hartford Connecticut. Due to her architectural background, She keeps a spatial aerial vision of her painting surface. Paintings and etchings are two main aspect of her work. She scratches methodically the surface of the plate with signs and traces. She uses natural pigments and waxes when she works on linen. She gathers during her trips pigments wich she uses in her paintings; sepia, malachite, lapis lazuli, venetian red, cadmium yellow, cobalt blue, and earth green… Aboriginal’s rituals and Melanesians sacred ecology inspire her paintings. She has lived and worked for several years in Vanuatu, South Pacific. Loose lines are carried by an invisible geometry. Their fluidity follows a framework that gives them a sense of organisation and sometimes symmetry but escape gravity laws. The fluid lines breath a sense of watery energy.
