PRoald Hoffmann nasce in una cittadina della Polonia (oggi in Ucraina) il 18 luglio 1937 e deve il suo nome allesploratore norvegese Roald Amundsen.
Dopo linvasione della Polonia da parte dei tedeschi, la sua famiglia viene rinchiusa prima in un ghetto e poi in un campo di concentramento, dal quale riusce a fuggire insieme alla madre nel 1939. Il padre, invece, viene ucciso dai nazisti durante un successivo tentativo di fuga. Alla fine della seconda guerra mondiale scappa dalla Polonia comunista con la madre e il patrigno (dal quale ha preso il cognome) vivendo in posti diversi (Cecoslovacchia, Austria e Germania) per poi approdare definitivamente negli Stati Uniti nel 1949.

Rural Reconstruction Foundation is the acronym of RRF. It is a non-governmental, non-profitable, non-political and non-sectarian voluntary development organization which was established on March 20, 1982 aiming at promotion of socio-economic emancipation of the under privileged in the south western part of the country in Bangladesh. It was founded by Mr. Philip Biswas and Mrs. Rita P. Biswas of Jessore.
