Axel Kilian, Ph.D., Dipl.-Ing. Overview of Projects
Axel Kilian is a PhD candidate in Design and Computation in the department of architecture at the school of architecture and planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since the fall of 2001. His research focuses on the realm of design , in specific in the context of digital media using programming and parametric constructs. The classwork covers a wide range of areas including his minor in Artificial Intelligence, Electronics, Architecture and kinetic constructs. A main focus is on generating and manipulating freeform surfaces and the link to fabrication techniques that encompass the properties of the machines used. Axel Kilian completed a Dipl. Ing. at the UdK in Berlin in 1998 and a Master of Science in Architecture Studies at MIT in 2000.
