Michael Shannon Choreographer Filmmaker
Thirty-eight Michael Shannon works, contemporary ballet, dance, plays, films, and music videos have premiered in the United States and Europe since 1995. Michael Shannon is Resident Choreographer for Configuration Dance Theatre in New York, a recipient of the Artvoice Best Dance Company Award in 2008 and 2009, co-Founder and Director of Greenwich Ballet Academy in Connecticut, and an honored recipient of a YAGP Outstanding Choreographers Award in 2008. Michael Shannon was an international star for the Bolshoi Ballet, Stars of the Bolshoi, Englands Birmingham Royal Ballet, Vienna State Opera Ballet, Hungarian State Opera Ballet, and the Kremlin Ballet. Michael Shannon graduated from the Moscow Choreographic Institute, Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Hungarian State Ballet Institute, and was awarded Professor of Choreography from the Ukrainian State Academy of Ballet. Michael Shannon was trained on scholarships from age 9 by legends in the ballet world, i.e., Stanley Williams from the Royal Danish Ballet at George Balanchine's School of American Ballet, Stanley Holden from the Royal Ballet of Covent Garden, Yvonne Mounsey from New York City Ballet, Betty Oliphant from the National Ballet of Canada, and others, and was a member of the Royal Swedish Opera Ballet at 16 when he became the first American scholarship recipient and graduate of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy at 19, and the first American star for the Bolshoi Ballet, Stars of the Bolshoi Ballet, and the Kremlin Ballet. The Michael Shannon Film, COURSE, has been selected for World Premiere screening by the 7th Annual Queens International Film Festival at the Frank Sinatra Center for the Arts in New York City from November 12-15, 2009.
