Chitrahar Cultural Academy
To preserve the South Asian culture among future generations and build bridges across communities, the Chitrahar Cultural Academy a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization (Tax ID: 36-3819824) aims to educate the public on South Asian culture, the South Asian Diaspora, its heritage and progress in the world today. We accomplish this in part by holding large gatherings that promote diversity and facilitate cross-cultural understanding. We strive to promote a better understanding specifically of South Asias culture and beauty, and its significance in and the impact of its Diaspora on the global community. Through these efforts, we also hope to help South Asian American youth handle their often bicultural upbringing, and offer examples of how they can simultaneously maintain their American and South Asian identities. CHITRAHAR NIGHT is an annual presentation of South Asian culture, at which we celebrate the achievements of individuals or organizations that have helped the community, or excelled within business, the arts, medicine or science. Attended by more than 1,000 people every year, CHITRAHAR NIGHT is a premier presentation of music, food, fashion, and folk, film, and classical dances from South Asia, during which young artists, performers and community leaders come together to celebrate our progress and strengthen our community through cultural awareness and education. The Chitrahar Cultural Academy is also proud to sponsor performing artists from the sub-continent locally hosting South Asian musical, dance or theatrical programs for the Chicago and Midwest areas.
