Pat Cato Expressionistic Painting
Pat, Cato, Artist, Greenville, Greer, SC, Anderson, Spartanburg, Upstate, Columbia, Charelston, Paints, brushes and canvas were toys to help my spirit to grow and dance. These toys became my tools to help express myself. My inspiration derives from nature and the environment around me. My goal is to produce a thought- provoking piece that makes a connection with the viewer. Another strong motivator is my palette. Color and texture have become essential to convey my message. I hope my work makes the viewer stop and look and make their own conclusions. This, I believe, is the fun and fascination of art.
BIO PAGE
I was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and grew up in Wheeling, W.Va. At an early age I had a connection to the outdoors and nature. The beautiful hills of West Virginia made an everlasting impression on me. Plus I was exposed to the wonderful museums in Pittsburgh, which opened my mind to the arts and especially painting; though I had not yet discovered art as art.
I lived in several places in Florida where I had the opportunity to take in the beautiful sunrise and sunsets. In 1987 my husband and I moved to Greensboro, North Carolina and I received an Associates Degree in Graphic Design and Advertising. I worked in Graphic Design and Visual Merchandising and also Picture Framing over the years.
All through those years I was teaching myself how to paint. We moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1995 and in 2007 I committed to be a full time artist.
I am a self taught painter.
I began to paint by copying pictures out of magazines or photographs. Then I stretched out to paint what I saw or what was in my head. This was a huge leap for a self taught artist. I made a tremendous amount of mistakes before I was a proud of a piece. Then I started showing at local coffee shops, art stores and then progressed into entering Juried Art Shows and Galleries.
I am currently showing in Art Galleries, local businesses and online. I continue to expand my work in different locales, styles and mediums. I feel its important to always change and grow in whatever your life-long work or pleasure would encompass.
If any person is reading this and is interested in art and is afraid to try, I invite you to the wonderful adventure. Nothing is so scary than fear itself, so give it a try.
If nothing else, I would like to thank my husband, David, for his total support and love for my work and my crazy ideas. Every artist should have a friend like him.
That is all for now. Thank You,
