Controlled Bleeding
Paul Lemos co-founded Controlled Bleeding, an experimental band, in Boston circa 1978. Lemos moved back to Massapequa, New York, reformed the group and ultimately released the band's ear-shattering debut full-length, KNEES AND BONES in 1982. The record is considered one of the earliest recordings of American power electronics. Over time, Lemos worked with a revolving cast of players, the two most regular being Joe Papa, known for his rich, operatic voice on albums like GOLGOTHA, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Moriarty, whose violent vocals and drumming prowess can be heard on PENETRATION, and with the Bleeding side-project Skin Chamber. Controlled Bleeding has always pushed the sonic boundaries, often releasing more ambient work side by side with harsh noise experiments, sometimes even on the same release. The band has amassed over two dozen recordings on labels as diverse as Wax Trax, Soleilmoon and Dossier.
