Afikim is a network of after-school centers across Israel that offer new hope and possibilities for disadvantaged, troubled families. The only framework of its kind to work with both children and their parents on a long-term basis, Afikim has two equally-important facets: After-school centers with enriching, constructive activities that develop each child’s potential to succeed. Parenting programs that build parents’ skills for managing their homes and families while helping them develop vocational and workplace skills. Children attend Afikim’s after-school centers for six years – from third grade through eight grade, when they are ready to begin high school. The program thus has a long-term and long-lasting beneficial impact on the children and their families
