Marc Belzberg
After receiving his MBA from New York University in 1979, Marc Belzberg gained extensive business experience in finance while working on Wall Street for Salomon Brother’s Mergers and Acquisitions Department and then as Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Oppenheimer & Co. Marc Belzberg then opened the office of the Belzberg family interests in New York in 1983, becoming the first President of First City Capital Corporation.
While at First City Capital, Marc Belzberg managed the risk arbitrage department, the Japanese arbitrage department, the foreign currency hedging and trading units and the undervalued stock investment group, generating profits of over $500mm for the group over a 5 year period.
In 1984, Marc Belzberg won the first national license to provide cellular telephone service in Canada before any US licenses had been granted.
The Belzberg family of Canada owned 40% of the consortium together with Rogers Cable Systems of Canada and Telemedia.
Soon after the reward of the license, Ameritech invested $20mm in the company in exchange for a 20% interest.
Marc Belzberg moved to Israel in 1992 and became very active in the local business community as well.
In addition to Marc Belzberg’s many and varied investments in multiple industries in Israel and abroad, Marc Belzberg is also deeply committed to philanthropy in Israel and abroad.
Among the projects Marc Belzberg has built and guided is OneFamily , an organization established by Marc Belzberg to provide assistance to terror victims and their families in Israel.
Marc Belzberg sits on the Board of Directors of the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance with branches in Los Angeles, New York, France and Jerusalem.
