AIDA is een organisatie voor vervolgde kunstenaars. Het gaat om kunstenaars die als gevolg van hun artistieke uitingen door het politieke gezag in hun land worden bedreigd, monddood gemaakt, gevangen gezet of simpelweg uitgewezen worden. AIDA neemt een eigen plaats in naast andere mensenrechtenorganisaties, die gegeven hun doelstelling niet bij machte zijn kunstenaars expliciet te steunen. De activiteiten ten behoeve van kunstenaars zijn even divers als de kunstenaars zelf zijn.
