#99690. Home - Claire Oliver
In 1993 Claire Oliver founded her gallery in Florida before moving to Philadelphia in 1997 and permanently relocating to New York in 2001. After two years on 20th street in Chelsea, the Claire Oliver Gallery moved to its present two-story ground floor location on 26th street in 2005.
Representing both emerging and mid-career artists, Claire Olivers program balances conceptual concern with a highly visual approach. A commitment to physical process and an intensity of detail is common to all of the gallery artists. This emphasis is seen clearly in the work of Judith Schaechter, recent Guggenheim and USA Artist Fellowship recipient, who is well known for works of stained glass. Kate Clarks sculptures of human-animal hybrids bespeak an obsessively handmade approach to the art-object.
The gallery is committed to working with established international artists. Two of these artists will hang their work at the fifty-third edition of the Venice Biennale: Spanish artist, Bernardi Roig, and Moscow-based Gosha Ostretsov. Collaborative group, AES F represented Russia in the fifty-second edition of the festival and have shown with the Claire Oliver Gallery since 2000. The gallery also represents Berlin-based duo EVA and ADELE who have been conducting an ongoing performance for nearly twenty years.
The Claire Oliver Gallery also produces large-scale thematic projects. For the 2008 Miami Art Week, the gallery has produced The Green Project, which is a platform for artists who speak about issues of global concern. The Green Project features Pop Ark, a monumental installation about global warming in the media by Noah Fischer. Ananas Dream, a video by Janet Biggs, which has recently been acquired by the Whitney Museum of American Art, is also on view along with new work by Stephanie Lempert and Xavier Cortada. The gallery is committed to showing multi-media works, which move the viewer through experimental time based and multi-sensory approaches, as seen in the projects of the Black Estate.
Claire Oliver Gallery artists are represented in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Tate Modern, the Smithsonian Institution, and many other important museums.
